Czech-Moldovian Business Forum

Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Martin Kuba and Moldovian Minister of Agriculture Vasil Bumacov organised a Business Forum for more than 130 entrepreneurs from both countries. The Czech Republic supports the conclusion of a Free Trade Agreement which will form a part of the Moldovian Association Agreement with the European Union. Free trade will bring benefits to both countries.

The greatest opportunities for Czech companies are in sectors like energy, electronics, infrastructure, the machinery industry and supplies of spare parts, transport, environmental protection, supplies of project design work and engineering.

Under the "Aid for Trade" programme, the Ministry of Industry and Trade implemented two projects in Moldova over the years 2008 - 2010 aimed at promoting the development of trade, especially in the sector of small and medium-sized enterprises, including the development of clusters. In the course of recent years, the Czech Republic has carried out projects in Moldova worth a total of 222 million Czech crowns. Over 20 Czech companies and institutions have been involved, including non-governmental organisations and universities. Most of these projects have been related to the environment, in particular collaborative work aimed at water protection, rehabilitating contaminated sites and other similar activities.

According to the Ministry these projects shall contribute to the acquisition of specific business contracts and closer future ties between Moldova and the European Union will also result in opportunities for Czech companies. The CR is aware of the Moldovan government`s efforts to modernise its economy and would like to be a part of that process.

The value of mutual trade between the Czech Republic and Moldova exceeded one billion Czech crowns in 2010. Out of this, more than 800 million Czech crowns consisted of exports of products by Czech companies to Moldova. In addition to traditional items, Czech companies have also been successful in exporting a number of relatively new products in recent years. As well as motor vehicles, tractors, other vehicles and means of transport, these have included, for example, electronics, machinery and consumer goods.
