Television Campaign to Boost Interest in Technical Education

The Ministry of Industry and Trade helps overcome the shortage of technical specialists on the labour market through an information campaign which shall support education in industrial fields at secondary schools. The campaign and its slogan "Trade can also be a road to success" is aimed mainly at parents of students in their final year of primary schools and young people at the age when they have to decide what direction to take after leaving a primary school.

The campaign`s objective is to respond to the needs of the corporate sector and help increase the attraction of technical fields in education.

According to the Ministry, it’s clear that an increasing interest in technical education is one of the fundamental criteria for ensuring a high quality, fully qualified employees in industrial fields, whose shortage is becoming an increasingly pressing problem on the Czech labour market. This fact is also negatively reflected in the ability of Czech companies to compete successfully on an international level on foreign markets. The Czech Television will broadcast two spots – "Bridges" and "Turbines" which can also be seen on YouTube. The campaign will also include four forty-minute discussion programmes on the topic of trade schools with a focus on the following areas:

  • apprentice training in the Czech Republic and Europe
  • growth in the level of education
  • apprentices and employers
  • European legislation.

ČT24 will regularly include live broadcasts of discussions with experts on education and industry on Tuesday evenings. The discussion will also include a total of eight short reports on companies that actively face human resource issues in their particular field.

The information campaign was preceded by a survey and analysis of employers` needs in selected regions as well as workshops on the topic of "Employers` Needs in the Area of Human Resource Development". This will also be the title of the final conference held on 12 December 2011 with the attendance of the Minister of Industry and Trade, Martin Kuba. These activities have been realised by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in cooperation with the Czech Chamber of Commerce.
