The activities of an assessor of health risks involve assessing the seriousness of a population`s exposure to risk factors in their living and working conditions and general life style.
Persons wanting to carry out the activities of an assessor of health risks must first take a professional eligibility exam. Subsequently, the applicant shall apply to the State Health Institute with a request to be issued a certificate of authorisation.
Procedure for obtaining authorisation:
- Application to sit the professional eligibility exam
- Application for the certificate of authorisation
- Renewal of the certificate of authorisation
1) Application to sit the professional eligibility exam
- The request to be issued a certificate of authorisation (see below) shall serve as the application to sit the exam.
- Where the applicant has not completed a university education in the field of medicine or natural sciences, they must first graduate a professional training course terminating with a test prior to taking the exam. Professional training courses are organised on an annual basis by the authorising body.
Once they have passed the exam, the applicant may apply to be issued the certificate of authorisation.
2) Application for the certificate of authorisation

The application must be supported with:
- a certified copy of a certificate of university education in the field of medicine or natural sciences
- documentary proof attesting their business authorisation (trade licence, concession)
- documentary proof of the applicant having at least 5 years experience working in the field of health and environmental protection. To be documented by means of confirmation from an employer, and/or by submission of the results for previous activities.
- solemn declaration that the applicant has no financial or other interests that may have an effect on results when assessing health risks
- documentary proof of the authorisation applicant's probity. To be documented by means of an extract from the Criminal Register (link).
Following assessment of the background documentation and provided that it meets all the requirements, the applicant shall be called upon to pay the registration fees and charges for the registered sets as per the tariff scale of the authorising body.

An audit shall take place at the workplace of the applicant
Once all requirements are met, the authorising entity shall issue the applicant with a two-year authorisation certificate.
During the term of the certificate, the authorising entity shall be entitled to review the extent to which the applicant complies with the authorisation conditions. To regulate this procedure an agreement on inspection activity shall be signed (in two counterparts) and returned after the applicant has passed his or her exam. Payment for inspections shall be made pursuant to the tariff scale of the authorising body.

3) Renewal of the certificate of authorisation
An application to renew the certificate of authorisation must be filed with the State Health Institute by the person to whom the certificate of authorisation was issued, at least 6 months before the validity of the current certificate expires. The costs associated with the renewal of the certificate shall be borne by the applicant. The application to renew the authorisation is identical to the application to be issued the certificate of authorisation.
The authorisation certificate may be renewed for a period of 5 years
The authority shall grant authorisation within 30 days
The business may be conducted after fulfilling all the above stated requirements.
