The person interested in carrying on the activities of a settled patent attorney shall at first apply for recognition of professional qualifications by the Chamber of Patent Attorneys; further then, in the case of substantial differences between the attained qualifications and the qualifications required the applicant needs to pass a differential examination arranged by the Industrial Property Office. Subsequently the applicant shall apply for registration into the list of patent attorneys.
Procedure for acquiring the licence:
- Application for recognition of professional qualifications
- Application for taking a differential examination
- Application for registration into the list of settled foreign patent attorneys
- Taking of the oath (within one month of delivery of the application)
- Arranging liability insurance against damage
1) Application for recognition of professional qualifications
- The application within the following scope shall be submitted to the Chamber of Patent Attorneys.
It is necessary to attach the following documents to the application:
- a document of completion of higher education (plain copy)
- a certificate of pursuit of the patent attorney profession abroad
- a document of payment of the fee for examination of CZK 2,000.00
In case that substantial differences are ascertained between the attained qualifications and the qualifications required
2) Application for taking a differential examination
- The application is submitted to the Industrial Property Office, which shall issue a document of passing of the test.

3) Application for registration into the list of settled foreign patent attorneys
- The application is submitted to the Chamber of Patent Attorneys of the Czech Republic.
It is necessary to attach the following documents to the application:
- statement of criminal records
- a document of recognition of qualifications, possibly a document of passing of a differential examination

The Office shall register the applicant into the list and shall issue a certificate of the registration within 15 days
