The activity consists in inspecting and verifying measuring gauges or designated materials.
With regard to the specific and complex nature of the entire process, persons wanting to perform this activity must initially go through an introductory interview with staff from the Technical Standardisation, Metrology and Testing Authority, who are in charge of authorising performance of this activity. The application for authorisation must be supported with a certificate of professional eligibility for persons in charge of activities, issued by accreditation sites for personnel, as well as a certificate of eligibility to inspect and verify designated gauges issued by the Czech Metrology Institute.
Procedure for obtaining authorisation:
- Introductory interview with applicants for authorisation
- Application for a personal eligibility certificate / Application for a certificate of metrological, technical and personal eligibility to inspect and verify designated gauges
- Application for authorisation
1) Introductory interview with applicants for authorisation
The interview must be arranged by telephone with staff from the Technical Standardisation, Metrology and Testing Authority. With regard to the complexity of the entire procedure, the interview is indispensable.
Minutes shall be taken from the introductory interview
2) Application for a personal eligibility certificate
- persons who shall physically carry out the activity involving inspecting and verifying gauges and designated materials must possess the certificate. The applicants themselves therefore do not necessarily have to possess the certificate. The applicants may ask for the certificate to be issued to their staff members.
- Certification shall be performed by Accreditation Sites for staff members, who are listed at the Czech Accreditation Institute website (phone: + 420 221 004 501), in this case certification is also performed by the Czech Metrology Institute. With regard to the complexity of the certification process, the body in charge of certification should be contacted with a request for information on the entire procedure.
- there is no statutorily prescribed time limit for issuing this certificate
Issue of personal eligibility certificate for staff members
2) Application for a certificate of metrological, technical and personal eligibility to inspect and verify designated gauges
- The application shall be filed with the Czech Metrology Institute.
- Use of the prescribed form (in Czech) is recommended when submitting the application.
The application shall be supported with:
- an extract from the Commercial Register or copy of the trade licence
- copy of the minutes from the introductory interview with the applicant for authorisation at the Technical Standardisation, Metrology and Testing Authority. (see point 1)
The authority shall issue the certificate within a time limit of 180 days
3) Application for authorisation
- The application shall be filed with the Technical Standardisation, Metrology ad Testing Authority
- There is no prescribed form or set requirements for the application
The application shall be supported with:
- certificates of personal eligibility for staff members in charge of metrological activities
- certificate of metrological, technical and personal eligibility to inspect and verify gauges
- documentary proof to the effect the applicant does not have any financial or other interests that may affect the results of any metrological activity which is the object of authorisation. In the case of authorisation for subsequent on-site inspection and verification of designated gauges that are simultaneously designated to establish quantity in direct sales to the public, the authorised entity must not be user, manufacturer, repairer, importer or distributor of the said gauges. Documentary proof shall be a solemn declaration by the company management or the quality manual.

The authority shall issue a decision regarding authorisation within 30 days
The business may be conducted after fulfilling all the above stated requirements.
