The Czechs are lagging far behind in the financing of new modern projects that add to their country's competitiveness.
Entrepreneurs who are looking to start out find their way ahead dogged by an insufficient amount of risk capital. In terms of such capital's share of GDP, the Czech Republic ranks in 20th place among the 28 member nations of the European Union. Hungary, in contrast, places fifth.
It enjoys 12 times as much venture capital investment as the Czech Republic, according to the Erste Corporate Banking 2015 Innovation Barometer. The lack of risk capital is a particular complication for startups which are developing and testing tangible products.
