Geological work - licencing step by step

Geological work means activities associated with the examination, evaluation, documenting, and mapping of the development and composition of the geological structure of a territory and its patterns, searching for and exploring mineral deposits, verifying their storage and processing geological documents for their utilization and protection, searching for and exploring ground water resources, including natural healing, table, mineral, and thermal water.
An individual interested in carrying out an activity of a responsible geological work provider must firstly obtain a certificate of professional competence from the Ministry of Environment. The trade may be notified and commenced afterwards.
Procedure for obtaining the certificate
1) An application for obtaining the certificate of professional competence of a responsible geological work provider
- an application shall be filed with the Ministry of Environment
- although it is not obligatory, it is recommended to use the standard form (see the form for the responsible geological work provider)
- The application shall include:
a) An extract from the Criminal Registry not older than six months.
b) Documents on the required education. Graduates from a secondary school are required to submit a certified copy of a final exam from a geology focused subject. Graduates from a vocational training school shall prove the geology oriented study by a certified copy of a school leaving exam. University graduates are required to submit a certified copy of a diploma, final exam or similar document issued by the university proving the university degree.
c) Information on the length and focus of applicant's experience with designing, performing and evaluating of geological work evidenced with an overview of professional work history and a list of work (projects, partial or final reports or their parts and other professional work) the applicant carried out or participated. In case of large amount of work it is possible to report only the selection of work that is considered by the applicant as representative.
d) Selected projects, partial or final reports and other professional work which serve as an applicant’s evidence of professional level and an ability to design, manage and evaluate geological work.
e) A proof of payment of the administration fee (in a form of duty stamp).
Conditions for professional competence are set forth in the Act no. 62/1988 Coll. on geological work and the decree of the Ministry of Environment no. 206/2001 Coll., on certification of professional competence to design, carry out and evaluate geological work.
2) Notification of a professional trade
The notification is submitted:
- at any trade licence office
- via public administration contact points (the so-called Czech POINT) – in Czech only
- electronically, via the information system provided by the Register of Trade Business

Notification may only be submitted using the so-called Single Registration Form.

Documents evidencing professional competence (i.e. the decision of the Ministry of Environment which issues the certificate of professional competence of a responsible geological work provided acc. to Sec. 3 Art. 3 of the Act no. 62/1988 Coll., on geological work as amended). If the conditions for trade notification stipulated by the Trade Licensing Act have been met, the trade licence office shall make an entry in the Trade Register within 5 days of the delivery of the notification and shall issue a copy of the entry to the business person.
The business may be conducted after fulfilling all the above stated requirements.
