The document contains detailed information on terms of posting workers to EU member states including local conditions of employment. Each member state is described its notification duty, competent institutions for particular steps incl. contacts, data to be notified, sanctions for not complying with the regulations, etc.

Notification duty

The posting has to be notified as long as it exceeds 30 days or employees perform construction works in sectors under the Lithuanian Building Act.

Posted employees must be registered with the territorial section of the State Labour Inspectorate (Teritoriniai skyriai in Lithuanian):

Period of notification of posting

The territorial section of the SLI must receive the notification at least 5 days prior to the commencement of work. The notification may be submitted the first day of the employment only in justified cases (accident).

Sanctions for failure to notify

Failure to comply with the notification duty or notification in delay can lead to a fine of 400 to 800 Lt.

A form called „Report on a Worker Posted to Perform Work in the Republic of Lithuania“ is available on the web site of the State Labour Inspectorate:

Maximum length of working time

40 hours a week and a maximum of 48 hours a week including overtime. 12 hours a day when having more employment relationships. Exceptions from this regulation apply to certain professions in the health and security sector.

Minimum length of a rest period

A minimum of half an hour a day, a maximum of 2 hours a day. The rest period between two shifts must be at least 14 hours in a 24 hour period. 35 hours is the shortest uninterrupted rest period per week.

Minimum length of holidays

The standard length of holidays is 28 days. 35 days are entitled to employees younger than 18 and single parents with a child under the age of 14 or a disabled child under the age of 18.

Minimum wage

800 Lt (202,3 €) a month

  • European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)

Necessity to translate documents

Certified translation of documents related to the employment is recommended.

Obligation to store the documents

Lithuanian legislation does not set such obligation. It is recommended that the documents are stored in compliance with regulations for storing other personal documents.
