Decline in imports contributed to the improvement in the balance of foreign trade in goods.
“In August, foreign trade in goods recorded the weakest result since the beginning of this year. The value of exported and imported goods was year-on-year lower, but the trade balance showed a higher year-on-year surplus mainly due to worse import results and a positive contribution of trade in motor vehicles. The foreign trade was also favourably influenced by lower prices of oil and natural gas on world markets. There was a negative impact of a number of working days, which was year-on-year lower by one day, and the influence of holidays in production facilities. Given the good performance since the beginning of this year, which exceeded the last year, the domestic foreign trade is still in good shape and has a potential to achieve a high surplus under more stable conditions of the global development” said Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade for EU and Foreign Trade Vladimír Bärtl.
