The document contains detailed information on terms of posting workers to EU member states including local conditions of employment. Each member state is described its notification duty, competent institutions for particular steps incl. contacts, data to be notified, sanctions for not complying with the regulations, etc.

Tax office where posted employees must register when exceeding 183 days in Greece

A posted employee is not obliged to pay taxes even if the length of his/her stay exceeds one year. Services must however always be provided temporarily.

Period of notification of posting

Terms are not specified. Companies posting workers to Greece must submit relevant documents prior to the commencement of posting.

Sanctions for failure to notify

An employer’s representative breaching labour or notification duties in relation to posted workers will be prosecuted and may be confined for at least 3 months or fined 293 Euro whereas he/she also pays all sanctions resulting from the standard labour law. Besides that the law breaker is imposed an administrative fine of the equivalent of 147 Euro per every posted employee, up to 8,804 Euro in total.

Data to be notified

  • name or company’s name, address and legal form
  • identification data (name, surname, father’s name, mother’s name, date of birth, address, etc.) of a legal representative of the company
  • identification data (name, surname, father’s name, mother’s name, date of birth, address, etc.) of a company’s representative in Greece for the period of posting
  • address of the place or places where the posted workers will pursue their services as well as the name or company’s name, address and a legal form of the undertaking or undertakings where the services will be performed
  • date of the commencement of services and posting of employees as well as its assumed length
  • type of work to be performed and information whether hazardous materials or methods are used
  • list of posted workers containing the following information on each employee:
    • name, surname, age and specialisation
    • date of the commencement of work, field experience with other employers and marital status
    • daily and weekly working time, start and termination of the daily hours of work and time of rest breaks, weekly rest period
    • all paid reimbursement for work

The documents are submitted at least in 2 copies, one is kept at the Labour Inspectorate, and others must be posted on a visible place at every work premise.

Any changes must be submitted in a complementary list within 15 days.

In case services are provided on shifts, the employer is obliged to submit a table of weekly shifts in addition to above mentioned data.

12 hours a day

Minimum length of a rest period

1 day off a week

Minimum length of holidays

20 working days for workers with a 5 day working week and 24 days for workers with a 6 day working week

In addition to paid holidays, employees in Greece are also entitled to a so-called „contribution to holidays“ amounting to either half of the monthly salary or 13 daily wages.

Minimum wage

Since May 1, 2009, the minimum gross basic salary of a non-educated employee with no commitments and experience is 739.50 EUR and the minimum daily wage is 32.87 EUR.

Overtime rates:

+ 25 % of the daily wage for the 41. to 45. working hour a week, + 50 % for overtime since the 46. to 120 overtime hours a year and + 75 % for overtime over 120 hours.
