Period of notification of posting
The notification can be made any time prior to posting the employees however not simultaneously.
Sanctions for failure to notify
Sanctions are set by the national legislation.
Currently, there is no form for this purpose.

- Date of the commencement of the employment
- Assumed length of work
- Place of work
- Representative of the employer in Latvia
Maximum length of working time
8 hours a day, 40 hours a week.
Standard working time of employees in a dangerous environment must not exceed 7 hours a day and 25 hours a week provided they pursue such work for more than 50 % of their standard daily of weekly working time.
Overtime work is permitted only upon written agreement of the employer and the employee. Overtime work must not exceed 144 hours in a 4 month period of time (Art. 136 of the Labour Law).
Minimum length of a rest period
12 consecutive hours; at least 42 consecutive hours within a week (7 days).
Every employee is entitled to a lunch break if he/she works for more than 6 hours. The lunch break must be allowed no later than 4 hours from the commencement of the work.
Minimum length of holidays
20 days; one part of the paid holidays must be taken at least for a period of 2 consecutive calendar weeks.
It is not permitted to reimburse for the paid holidays unless the employee terminates the employment relationship and have not utilised the holiday for the calendar year.
The current minimum wage is 180 LVL. An extra payment shall be paid to employees doing a danger work. The extra payment shall be stipulated in the collective agreement or the employment contract.
An employee working at night shall receive an extra payment of at least 50 % of an hourly or daily wage. In case of a flat salary, the extra payment shall not be less than 50 % of the salary.
An employee working overtime or on holidays, weekends or silent hours shall receive an extra payment of at least 100 % of an hourly or daily wage rate.
The collective agreement or the employment contract shall contain higher extra payments.

When inspecting posted workers, the State Labour Inspectorate usually asks for all evidence that the employee is employed in accordance with all legal norms. In particular, the employer is asked to submit all relevant documents confirming the employment relationship and his/her posting.

Necessary documents have to be available only during the period of posting.
Obligation to entrust a responsible representative
The Labour Law no. 14 Sec. 4 no. 5 stipulates that the employer posting employees to perform work in Latvia is obliged to appoint its representative there. All inquiries related to employees are handled with the appointed representative.
